Traveling is something that many people absolutely love to do. Many people choose the places they will travel to because they have never been. Why they want to go to certain places could be the scenery, the activities, preconceived notions obtained from popular culture, and maybe even the weather. All of those influences just mentioned are why people travel to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The beautiful desert scenery is a good reason enough to visit the area, and the warm weather is a perfect getaway during cold winter months elsewhere. Probably one of the biggest influences on people’s decisions to travel to Las Vegas are the preconceived notions obtained from popular culture. People associate Las Vegas with fun times and gambling, and for the most part that is what it is about.

The casinos in Las Vegas and all over the world really are set up to encourage people to spend as much time as possible gambling and enjoying the fact that they might be spending a large amount of money. But don’t think that you have to travel to Las Vegas, hop on a cruise ship, or end up on a Native American reservation to gamble. Nope, you can do it right from your home on the internet. In some countries online gambling is illegal, but in others it is just fine.

Find out more about casinos and online gambling below.

Everyone has placed a friendly wager now and then; maybe it was over who would win the Super Bowl or a game of cards, or whether it would snow in Tallahassee — but because we’re regular guys and girls, the stakes were probably reasonably low. Maybe the winner was taken out to dinner at a nice restaurant, or given a case of Budweiser. Maybe the prize was $50. Either way, that’s how people play in the real world. Celebrities, on the other hand, take gambling to the extreme. Check out some of the antics your favorite stars have gotten themselves into in Vegas and elsewhere:

This infographic contains some gambling statistics from indulgent stars who are notorious for their excesses at the poker tables and casinos of the world. It seems celebrities are as over the top with their gambling as they tend to be with everything else in life, especially compared with ordinary folks like me (and probably you, too.) This kind of makes me feel better about losing that bet on the 2008 presidential election.

Online gambling and gaming has always had a sketchy reputation. It is legal in various degrees in most states in the US, and illegal in various degrees as well, which makes it very complicated determining the legality as it falls under any federal laws and guidelines. But legality aside, how are people taking advantage of online gambling? Who plays the most games online? Online gambling is appealing because it has several obvious advantages over traditional gaming: there are no lines to wait in, no additional expenses in traveling or lodging, and you can play from the comfort of your own home.

Online gambling has seen significant and steady increases in participation in the last decade, and projections have it continuing to grow steadily at least through 2013. A good home security team may be needed for people who gamble from home. Let’s check out the stats on gambling online and see how the cards are stacking up:

Playing the lottery is something that many people take part in often. In fact, the lottery has become one of the most mainstream ways to gamble in the United States. Gambling and trying to beat the odds is a thrill and a rush. In fact many people find this form of gambling to be such a thrill and rush that they become addicted to it. With that being said, it makes sense that over 80% of the revenue that is made by the lottery is from habitual lottery players.

Since the lottery and the gambling can trigger addiction, why do we still implement it? The lottery produces a lot of revenue that assists in building and repairing roads, helping schools, and quite a few other things at a state level. There are even gambling hotline numbers printed on lottery cards so that those who might feel addicted can call and seek help.

We talked to a current lottery player and an admitted addict to see what the addiction to gambling in the lottery is really like. He said the following: ”It’s like a constant itch that you can’t quite get to. I have won small amounts of money on many occasions, but I feel like I will keep on playing until I hit the big jackpot. All kinds of things will trigger my desire to play the lottery, like an aromatic smell can trigger it or just seeing something that reminds me. I’m not sure if I will ever stop playing the lottery.”

Learn more about the lottery in the infographic that is below this post. If you are afraid that you have an addiction to gambling, contact a gambling help hotline.

We all know that gaming is good for the soul. It makes us happy, refreshes our imaginations, gives us new life to face the sometimes difficult tasks of day to day living, and lets us escape for a time. But what is the psychology of gaming, that keeps people engaged and coming back for more? How is it different from our real life objectives? Could game mechanics be a tool managers could use to keep workers more engaged, enthusiastic, and productive? Many people seem to think so. A gaming mentality at work can really liven things up. Think about it: in most video games, despite the huge variances in story arcs and role playing, the player has certain objectives that must be reached. He must master a set of skills that are applicable to the game, then use them to overcome obstacles and reach goals and become more powerful in the game world. When you really give it a moment’s thought, you see that it’s a lot like work. So why isn’t work more engaging? It could be that incorporating some game mechanics in the workplace could really go a long mile to ramp up performance and enthusiasm. Take a look at this info graphic for more data:

Welcome to the first of our 3-part Tradition Series on games from world cultures. Today, we begin with a game called Surakarta which is named for a town in Java, Indonesia. Roundabouts is another name by which the game is often called.

The game board is fairly straightforward, and consists of a 6 x 6 grid of 36 points. There are eight circular loops extending out from the board. The second points from each corner are joined together by a circular loop and the third points from each corner are joined by a larger circular loop that is concentric with the first.

Every player begins with 12 pieces arranged in a pattern. These are traditionally stones and shells, although black and white pieces are also often used. The object of the game is to capture all your opponent’s pieces while moving in the prescribed patterns across the board. To begin the game, each player rolls a single die to determine who will go first. If identical numbers are rolled, then both players try again until different numbers have been cast down. The player with the highest number goes first, and game play proceeds clockwise around the board.

Players take turns moving their pieces one piece at a time. Moves can be orthogonally or diagonally in any direction, so long as it is to any adjacent empty point. A piece may not jump another piece or land on an occupied space except for making captures. To capture, a piece is moved along a line over any number of unoccupied points including the circular loop until the opponent’s piece is reached. The piece that is attacking take the place of the captured piece, which is removed from the board.

As in most other traditional games, the winner is the first player to capture all his opponent’s pieces. It is a very venerable old game from Indonesia, yet it is not ancient. It was first marketed for sale in 1970, under the name Permainan, a word meaning “the game” in the area of Bahasa, Indonesia. It is a very fun game, one that will keep people entertained for hours of intriguing game play.

People in nearly every state in the union either have, or have access to, a state sponsored lottery of some sort. A lottery is a legal form of gambling involving the drawing of numbers for a prize. Although lottery is against the laws of some governments, others endorse it to the point of championing either a national or state lottery. The regulation of lottery by governments even allows those supporting governments to tax lottery payouts. In the early 20th century, nearly all forms of gambling in the U.S.A. and most of Europe were illegal and stayed that way until after World War II ended. In the 1960s, lotteries and casinos began springing up, and rather than outlaw them, some governments found ways to capitalize on their earnings for tax purposes.

Lotteries are often popular since people can win large cash payouts in addition to other kinds of prizes, such as cars, boats, homes, and expensive all inclusive vacations out of the country. People often enjoy participating in lottery games due to the small cost of purchasing single tickets, and the chance for big payouts. There are, however, certain people who it would be ill advised to play any gambling games — even lottery tickets. These are known as compulsive gamblers. Anyone with any degree of gambling problems should avoid spending even one dollar on a lottery ticket, because it could lead them to compulsively spend all of their money on tickets.

Lottery tickets can be purchased in many states, and some states are all part of the same lottery game system. For instance, the MegaMillions lottery includes several states, as does the PowerBall. Just imagine how many Direct TV Bundle Packages you could buy with those winnings! Amazing!!!

The chances a person has of winning a lottery jackpot depend on several factors. The count of all the possible winning numbers drawn factors in, as does the question of whether or not order has any significance. Overall, lottery playing is an inexpensive way of gambling, provided that a person does not spend more money than he or she can afford on tickets. Depending on your state, the money you spend can also go to help government programs, such as education.

Many people around the world have addictive personalities, and their addictions tend to span a variety of forms. Among the most destructive additions on earth is the addiction to gambling. Gambling causes the financial hardship to families headed by an addict. The person may squander the household funds needed to pay bills and keep a house on gambling games and racking up more debt. In the United States of America alone, addictive gambling affects approximately 15 million people. More than 3 million of the addicts are classified as severe problem gamblers. Other names for people of this severity are “gambling addicts” and “pathological gamblers.”

Problem gambling destroys personal relationships. It can terribly interfere with the responsibilities of heading a home and holding down steady employment, and often leads to financial crises or ruin. Some people in the grip of gambling addiction resort of acting out of character in order to support their habits, such as stealing money, or misappropriating household funds. Stopping a gambling addiction is very difficult without psychotherapy. If the sufferer and his or her family are ready to admit there is a dire problem and to seek help, however, it is a problem that can be cured, or at least, managed.

Gambling addiction is also known as compulsive gambling, and it is a type of an impulse control disorder. Compulsive gamblers are unable to resist the impulse to gamble, despite understanding that their gambling harms themselves or their loved ones. The thoughts of a compulsive gambler are completely taken with gambling, no matter what the consequences may be. These people continue to gamble, completely independently of mood or state of life.

Some gamblers still have a problem, even those who are not apparently totally out of control. If the gambling disrupts a person’s life, to any degree, then he, or she, is a problem gambler. Being overly preoccupied with gambling, and planning life events and schedules around opportunities to gamble, are all signs of a problem that needs attention. This has become such a problem in our nation, that popular TV shows are popping up on Direct TV Network about addicted gamblers.

If you or someone you know has a problem gambling, encourage him or her to seek help.

Card games are played using packs or decks of cards of the exact same dimensions in shape and size. The cards each have two sides called the face, and the back. In most cases, by design, the backs of the cards are embellished with identical markings and designs so that players cannot distinguish them when viewing them from the back. The faces of the cards may be completely unique, or there can be identical cards as well.

Similar types of games can be played with tiles made of plastic, wood, bone, or other materials. The most recognizable examples of tile set games are Dominoes, Mahjong, and Rummikub. Chinese dominoes, while being comprised of traditional tile sets as other dominoes, are also played as cards instead.

The earliest historical mention of cards playing comes from a judgement on gambling written by Kublai Khan on 17 July 1294. A thorough description of Chinese money playing cards, printed in four suits, survived from the 15th century. The Mahjong tile game as is popular today is a 19th century invention based on a three-suited money playing card deck.

In current times, the most well recognized deck internationally is the French-suited cards deck with English styling. This is the standard deck of cards, containing 52 unique cards in four suits: spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. It contains thirteen ranks beginning at the highest with king, then descending through queen, jack, ten, nine down to two (also called “deuce”) and finally the ace. These decks may additionally come with up to four suitless cards called jokers. Throughout much of Europe, French-suited decks are frequently found to have regional styling. Several European card games are played with less than the standard French-style 52 cards. This means that smaller decks are more common in some countries.

In all of the countries where playing card games exist, people sometimes gamble, or play for winnings that are staked (betted) on a projected outcome. The popular game is called Fire Alarm. Much of the game is up to chance, so while there is no way to predict who will win any given game, a person with an in depth knowledge of the cards deck can watch carefully the actions of other players and make more accurate predictions that might actually pay off.

These glossy covered periodical tomes of the times provided insights on the latest fashion trends, hairstyles and makeup techniques. They also provided the first dieting tips, and natural ways to achieve a flawless complexion using natural substances like avocados, cucumbers, and lemons. For skin care, olive oil was often recommended. Women loved the advice in their monthly magazines.

Many women’s magazines included recipes for family meals and get-togethers as well. As more women began the transition from housewife living to working outside the home, the gist of many magazines changed to incorporate this new outlook and meet the emerging needs of women who could, or would, no longer stay at home full time. Recipes needed to be aimed at convenience, and quickly packing durable lunches for the kids to take to school, while keeping the lady and sir of the house in lunches more suitable for themselves.

This was before the advent of modern TV. According to D3Q, the leading modern women’s TV channels are Oxygen, Lifetime, and We. The Food Network is not considered a women’s channel, since it appeals widely to viewers of both genders. Men and women love to get into the kitchen and create, or recreate, new culinary masterpieces. Other channels that might seem to be women’s channels but actually aren’t are similarly not classified as such owing to their overall appeal to both women and men, and their ability to earn top advertising dollars based on the demographic projections from top marketing research firms and analysts.
